No service on Sundays on Kolkata metro's East-West corridor till further notice

Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor will remain closed on Sundays until further notice. This means that metro services will not be available on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade and Sealdah-Salt Lake Sector V routes every Sunday. However, metro services on the North-South corridor, from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash, will continue to run as usual.

According to sources from Kolkata Metrorail, the Sunday suspension is necessary to conduct technical tests. The East-West Metro expansion is a major project, and the authorities have decided to utilize Sundays for essential work, as passenger traffic is generally lower on holidays.

The upcoming metro expansion is expected to significantly benefit commuters. Once completed, the East-West Metro line will directly connect Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan, making travel more convenient for thousands of passengers daily.

Currently, this metro corridor operates in two separate sections. The first section runs from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, passing under the Hooghly River. The second section operates between Sealdah and Salt Lake Sector V. The authorities are now focusing on completing the pending work to integrate these routes seamlessly.
